Feral Angel Update

Hi everyone!

Seeing as it is Kitty Wednesday I have decided to do an update on the Pavilion Feral Angels for you.

For those of you who don't know; Kitty Wednesday is an initiative started up by the admin ladies on the South African Animal Supporters Unite Facebook page. This initiative aims to help the “underdogs” of the welfare world – kitties.

So without further ado, here is a little update.

Many emails and BBM’s transfer between Lisa - who heads up our station at the Pav, Mandy from Kitten Action (the “founder” of the entire scheme and I.

So far we are working on getting a head count of the kitties at our particular station.

We are feeding two litters of kittens.
In the older litter we have two grey and white kittens; which my children called Puff Two and Three after our cat Puff who passed a few years back. They certainly look like family of his. Smile

There is also a little ging, Kitt Two; a black and white kitten, Stig Two; and two tabby and white kittens.
The younger litter used to have 6 kittens 2 black kittens and 4 tabbies. There are now 5…. I’ll get back to that story in a bit….
We have a tabby mommy and 3 tabby kittens that are a few months old.
Yesterday when i went to feed the angels I saw that we also have two calico cats, which I call The Callies.

So far one of the tabbies, who was trapped has been sterilised and released as well as one of the mommy cats. Mandy is planning a trapping evening soon to trap more of the kitties for their sterilisations.

During the school holiday, we got our first glimpse of the new litter of kittens. My heart sank seeing how little these babies were. They are just absolutely adorable. Like Mandy said to me on the phone the other day “when are cats NOT adorable?” ~
My answer: “ Big or small, young or old they are all ADORABLE!”

Gotta Red heart CATS!

Last Thursday, just before the Easter Weekend my children and I toddled off to the Pav a little earlier than usual. Dark clouds were brewing so our intention was getting dry food to the feral angels before any down pour occurred.

When we got there the tiny angels were out sunning themselves. when they saw us they moved to sit in between the trolleys.

My daughter who is an honest to goodness cat person went to sit near by while i was talking to the kitties. two of the tabbies were listening intently when Fairy stuck her hand under the trolley and yelled “I’ve got one!”

My son grabbed the towel we carry with us and within seconds this little girl was “saved” from living a life as a feral.

IMG00102-20120406-1404

Her first day passed with much love and cuddles for reassurance. On Sunday she was already PLAYING!

Monday, a rather chilly day here in Durbs, we woke to a purring kitten.

She really has been such an easy baby to take care of. She only mews when she wants something, she plays with everything that she can possibly get her paws around and to top things off she is eating well and has already learned to use the litter box! Isn't that AWESOME?!

IMG00120-20120411-0824

Its times like these that I am so happy that I chose to get involved with animal welfare.

I couldn't be more grateful that I Red heartanimals.

For those of you who haven't read my original feral post you can read it here

We are hoping to have another lady on the team from today…. but we still do need food donations. Ice cream tubs and the like are very handy to swop over for cleaning, so please consider collecting some for us. We use them as water bowls.

We are still looking for some wood offcuts to make boxes to house the kitties food better in the rainy weather.

Please email me on stuffdidoodles@gmail.com if you would like to help.

Lastly a HUMONGOUS thank you to Kiley, who donated some food and kitten bowls for our station! *STANDING OVATION*

I am bat dog - Ta Dah!

meblu

Hi everyone

I would like to introduce myself; although I have already heard from mommy that she introduced me to you as a new member of the family.

My name is Blu.

I am a very well behaved Miniature Pinscher, and I love my family.

My mommy believes that I am going through a naughty streak because I like to chew things. She bought me puppy chew treats and lots of toys; raw hide; and hooves too. I still think my siblings and daddy’s shoes are far tastier. I can’t get near mommy’s shoes. This FAT cat that my family call Mimmo protects those with her life.

Mimmo pushed me out the way the other day with her BIG FAT BUM so that she could get more treats than ME!

I was feeling very sorry for myself. I needed MORE treats than her! … I’ll tell you about that later.

003blu

Besides waiting for treats; I LOVE food time.
My mommy and siblings are teaching me to sit before I am allowed to eat my food. I get so excited I dance around like my sister Fairy. … …
There can’t just be one dancer in the house…

When mommy or my brother put my plate down, I grab a biscuit and I run on my race track. I like to copy my brother’s cars from his race track.
My family all laugh and say that I get “mad dog disease”.
I am getting really good at running, like my brother who also runs. I run sooooo fast that I skid on tiles; and around corners. It’s so much FUN!

I get so excited when my family come back from shopping that I dig in all three of my water bowls and leave a BIG mess on the tiles. My mommy says the water is like a pool on the floor but I think its fun; it makes a skid pan on the tiles!

The other day I sensed that something was up. I didn’t quite know what.
Mommy took my brother and sister to school and when she came home she put my leash on.
We never go out so early. I like to lay in the sun with Mimmo and Kitt before we go out.

Aunty Fiona hooted at the gate and I went outside with Mommy. I had never been in Aunty Fiona’s car before and I was scared, so I sat on Mommy’s lap and shivered. It wasn’t long before I realised that we were on the same road to the place where mommy first found me.

Mommy filled in forms and then left me there!

I was so happy to see Mommy and my brother and sister come and fetch me again but I felt woozy and I slept a lot.

When I woke up the next morning and I didn’t feel woozy; I bent my head down to my favourite licking spot and realised something was MISSING!

I ran like mad to Mommy and shouted “take me back; take me back, something is missing that I want back!”

Don’t tell Mommy – I think she has been around cats way too long - she doesn’t understand BARK properly yet,… … …

because I’m still missing my favourite parts!

Update day

It’s Friday and I haven’t updated in a long time…

I have been kept very busy and have been pulled in a million different directions!

This is the one line that has stuck with me this week. Once again I forgot to save who wrote it – so thank you – whoever you were.
“knock – knock, oh I’m here to put you down, ur cats over u… he says you cramping his style.”
This was in reference to the amount of people dumping their pets… there have been way too many cases lately where people don’t take their animals to shelters – the poor souls are left at empty houses, at shopping malls, or even deserted at kennels.

006 blomThis week Rhino Poaching has been in the news… I followed ABSA’s progress and FB posts and reposted them for those unwilling to join the Aquila Private Game Reserve Page. We have to be aware that things like this are happening even if it saddens us. It’s the only way to educate and know how we can make a difference.
RIP ABSA boy. Your tragic death has brought together more people who are willing to fight to save other Rhino’s and SA wild live that are in danger. Your suffering although horrific was therefore not in vain…

What has upset me most with humans – and I know I’ve mentioned it before – is how people tend to toss you aside when you do what you want to do with your life… it’s as if they have a plan for your life and they want you to live it accordingly.
I for one can no longer live like this… I have tried to keep everyone happy my entire life, I have been there when everyone else vanished (they were too busy…) I have tried to make everyone proud… - except me…

In the time that I have been putting my heart and soul into animals; long time friends and family that I have always looked up to - have either walked out of my life or made it blatantly clear that they do not support what I do. It’s tough though – this is my life – my existence – and I have to do what makes ME happy.

So don’t expect to see me bowing out of the lives of the precious, voiceless four legged friends; any time soon.

I will however repeat how much I despise how people act and turn a blind eye to cruelty and abuse. You see it’s easier for them to do it. Turn the other cheek and become as much of a coward as the one who abuses.

On the positive side I have to thank the amazing people I have met online who are willing to speak out. Those who I consider to be incredible angels put specially on earth to make a difference…

I have to thank the few friends who have told me they are proud of me… My mom is one of them… to hear this made me smile in an extremely difficult time.

One of my long time friends has made me incredibly happy and proud of her. Through facebook issues and glitches – as well as a difficult period in her life has gone above and beyond the call of duty… Last night I received the most amazing thank you from this angel. It seems that we have been a positive source of energy to each other. Well if you think about it – it’s the animals we have to thank for strengthening our bond. So thank you to all the gorgeous furries.

On to my crazy cats

005 MimmoMiss Mimmo has settled in beautifully. She is a little tornado in the house. Her “dragging” shoe fetish has grown to being shoe protector.
She has learned to open doors too and invited my boy cats into the shower – while I was using it…
She has become everyone’s cat in a way. She follows my daughter, plays with my son sleeps with dad and well; she thinks I’m dirty… She decided that my hair was not clean enough for her liking and gave me a special kitty bath.
She is still getting used to her disability and so are we. She now at least “kitty kisses” Kitt and Stig instead of swatting them when they are on her blind side. Her tail is an issue she hasn’t quite mastered yet. She turned into a cyclone last weekend (at bed time) when it waved past her blind eye – if I wasn’t so exhausted I would have laughed. Silly girl.008 boxie

Kitt has upgraded from his favourite sleeping places – boxes – and retires to the bedroom at night – on my feet. Although he still likes his boxes during the day… *laughs*

Stig still visits his girlfriend – another cat in our complex – pity that her owners aren’t likable. I say “her” here although “she” could very well be a “he”. We haven’t established that yet. If you know my boy cats – you will know how in love they are with each other… so Stig may in fact be cheating on his boyfriend Kitt…

That is all for now

I hope that you all have a great week end.

xx

Di’s Blog World Update

007 Couch PotatoesIn Di’s world this has been mostly a “crappy people week again”. However I have learned a lot blog wise thanks to another blog that I follow. I thought that I would let you all in on this gem.
This guy writes two blogs, and he has been my inspiration to make my passion a reality. I have to give the credit to my friend Michelle for introducing me to this blog. Mich is the kind of person who sends you a card all the way from OZ to SA to make sure that you know you are special. When I’m feeling low I pull my card out and remember that there are people in the world who consider me important and unique, so thanks Mich for being an inspiration to me.

Ok, back to the point - so the original blog is called Single Dad laughing. He is an awesome writer. His posts create an awesome buzz and some interesting discussions too.
Recently he created the blog called Will Work 4 Followers where he has posted some awesome tools for bloggers to help them gain the following needed to get their blogs “out there”. I recommend that all bloggers read his posts not only for the help but also because they are just brilliant.

So there are new “bits” to my blog that I have introduced. I know I mentioned this in a previous post but I’m going to do it again for those of you who don’t know.

In the right hand column there is now a gadget that allows you to follow me by subscribing to my posts.

I have also fixed the issue with posting comments so hopefully all of you can now have your say.

Requests:

  • · If you haven’t yet shared Romeo’s wish or bought your raffle ticket please remember that the raffle closes on Wednesday. Check out my post on Romeo’s Wish in which I have “blogged” Romeo’s story as told by his granny, as well as a post by Romeo’s mommy which includes the prizes donated for this worthy cause. This is a link to the raffle itself so you have no excuses now – get buying and sharing!
  • · In yesterdays post I asked you to support The Cluny Animal Trust. Please can you share this as well? They are in desperate need of help. Remember that the smallest of donations helps too. This is another worthy cause.
  • · Please also take a look at my links page. These are animal shelters / charities / welfares / pet directories that you could also support. Please like their Facebook pages and show support where you can. You can even show support by sharing the orphans that are up for adoption. SHARING saves lives! (It does! One of your friends may see a baby and fall in love with its photo and eventually adopt – so then you would have had a hand in saving a life) Remember ALWAYS ADOPT – NEVER BUY OR BREED. If you would like your link there please mail me on stuffdidoodles@gmail.com
  • · If you are on Facebook would you like my page too? I also post pets on my page that are in need of good loving homes. I also post competitions from the various animal shelters / charities / welfares / pet directories that I have found so far.
  • · You can also follow me on Twitter. Twits are awesome and I would love to be a part of the RTing animal friendly community. I am @DinkiK on twitter.
  • · If you would like to have your day on my blog just like the Cluny Animal Trust and Romeo’s Wish, please email me on stuffdidoodles@gmail.com I would love to hear and post your story.

The future of my blog is looking really bright. After my mom saw my blog for the first time yesterday she has given me a couple of new ideas that we will be working on together. I really can’t wait to introduce some of our ideas to you.

005 macro messingI have to thank my regular readers and followers for your awesome support and comments. I love hearing from you, and it’s really nice to know that I’m not the only one out there who thinks in a particular way. I am blessed to have found such unique and special people through this media.

I have to end on a cute and positive note so please take a look at this link to another blog. My mom sent this to me last night and it made me smile. Thanks mom. Xx

I hope that all my mommy followers have a super day on Sunday. (Remember – you don’t have to have kids to be a mommy… if you have pets you’re a mommy too so remember to spoil yourself!)

Happy mommy’s day mommies! BIG hugs to all of you for the special day!
